Blue Salt BarramundiFeeding the World
Feeding the world with a nutritious and sustainable protein source has never been more important.
As the global population soars towards a predicted 9.7 billion by 2050, wild fish stocks simply cannot support the growing demand. Blue Salt Barramundi was born with this in mind.
Aquaculture has provided for the rapidly increasing consumer demand for fish and served to protect wild fisheries.
Over the past 20 years, largely over exploited wild fisheries haven’t produced an increased volume of fish products. In fact, 2014 saw aquaculture surpass wild fisheries as the dominant source of seafood products.
With existing forecasts for population growth and per capita consumption of fish products, the aquaculture industry will need to triple in size or add another 200 million tonnes of annual output by 2050.
By choosing Blue Salt Barramundi, you are saving wild fish stocks and supporting a sustainable protein source.
Why Barramundi?
The name Barramundi was derived from the indigenous Australian language, which translates to ‘large scaled river fish’, and its significance in the Australian culinary experience cannot be understated.
Barramundi has a reputation as a fine eating fish with a firm white flesh and is rapidly gaining popularity in premium retailers and restaurants across the world.
Barramundi are a preferred species for aquaculture due to their natural schooling behaviour, adaptability to a wide range of rearing conditions, rapid growth rate and high fillet yield when compared with other fish breeds.
